We got a small glimpse of it on May 10, and now Mercedes-Benz has unwrapped its all-electric speed demon of the future. Called the Vision AMG concept, it hints that AMGs future will be slick, minimalistic and very, very fast.
Think the Vision EQXX was efficient? Well the Vision AMG concept takes it up a notch where even the windows match the silver body. The teardrop-shaped body also helps make the concept as slick as possible. The Panamericana front grille we all know and love from an AMG gets a fresh perspective in the Vision AMG, as the grille is actually a panel with an illuminated effect for the slats and surround. A cool nod to the three-pointed star is its headlight setup which looks just like it.
Moving over towards the sides, you’ve got a steep A-pillar that tapers smoothly down to the rear. The Vision AMG concept is certainly a loong boy with the front and rear wheels stretched to the near extremes. In fact, if you look at the futuristic wheels, they resemble Mercedes’ W13 2022 F1 racecar. Speaking of F1, the paintjob has the three-pointed star motifs as well as teal accents on the sides and rear diffuser.
Head over to the rear, and we’ve got an active rear wing, with a sleek illuminated bar spanning the rear of the concept. Above the chunky diffuser, we’ve got brake lights that illuminate in a way that mimics an exhaust pipe.
The big bummer though is Mercedes have kept the detailed technical bits and performance capabilities of the Vision AMG under wraps. But we do know that it’ll be built on the dedicated AMG.EA platform and will draw power from axial flux motors made by Mercedes subsidiary YASA. Also, the carmaker claims it’ll be a lot more powerful than a conventional electric motor.
We know that the Mercedes-Benz Vision AMG is just a blueprint for an all-electric AMG future that’s set to begin in 2025, but there’s a chance the new performance EV might well be the production iteration of the Vision AMG after all. While its a long wait, its fingers crossed from our side until then.
