This time it achieved this record on a road trip from Stuttgart (Germany) to Silverstone (UK)

The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX electric concept grabbed eyeballs not just for its super slick design, but for pushing the envelope of range efficiency, surpassing its 1000km claimed range by covering 1008km while driving from Germany to southern France on a single charge in April. Now, the electric concept has broken its own record on a road trip to Silverstone (UK) from Stuttgart (Germany).

The Journey

The Vision EQXX managed to cover a whopping 1,202km on a single charge over the two-day, 14 hr, 30-minute trip with an average consumption of 8.3kWh per 100km. Starting from Stuttgart, the trip saw the electric concept cross notable areas such as the French border near Strasbourg, the Eurotunnel, the M25 around London as well as stopping by at the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team factory in Brackley.

It finally ended its journey at the Silverstone Circuit where it had enough range to see Mercedes Formula E driver, Nyck De Vries, take 11 laps around the 5.8km circuit before the electric concept came to a stop at the pitlane. It averaged around 83kmph over the trip, and achieved a maximum top speed of 140kmph while going around the Silverstone circuit.

So what helps the Vision EQXX make such bold trips? Well, for starters, its body alone is one of the most aerodynamically efficient in the world with a drag coefficient of only 0.17. There’s also an underbody cooling plate which helps cool the battery pack and give a short 20km boost to the range. The real party trick is in the mechanicals, of course, with a 245PS electric motor being paired to a 100kWh battery pack.

Sure, going around Europe isn’t quite a big litmus test, it's impressive to see how far the Mercedes EQXX concept’s boundaries can be pushed. While it may take some time before production Mercedes EV will be able to do it effortlessly, we will be seeing the EV concept at the ongoing Goodwood Festival Of Speed.
