India’s electric hatchback segment sprouted up rather quickly with the Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV and Citroen eC3 getting launched within a span of eight months. They represent the entry-level offerings of the incipient EV segment and are priced rather close to each other.
So considering that we’ve had the three of them on test, we thought this would be a good time to divulge their real-world performance and bring you their authentic acceleration, braking and top speed figures.
But before we head over to the real deal, here are the specifications of all three EVs laid out in a table for you:

Tata Tiago EV’s superior output figures translate directly into the best 0-100kmph time here.
The Citroen eC3 nearly keeps up with the Tiago EV up to the 60kmph mark, whereas the Comet EV is already 1.59 seconds behind at this point.
While the Comet EV’s acceleration is relatively decent up to 60kmph, the pull really tapers off post that speed with the EV taking another 14.08 seconds for reaching 100kmph.
Braking test between the Citroen and Tata is relatively close, while the data for the Comet EV was recorded in wet test conditions, hence the longer stopping distance.

A few key pointers:
All three EVs, especially the Comet EV and eC3, won’t feel blistering quick out on the highways, but they’ve got more than enough poke for all city commutes.
The Tiago EV will feel more comfortable on high speeds, while you’ll have to plan your overtakes on the highway in the other two EVs.
The MG Comet EV works best when limited to city runabouts. Although it’ll be happy to cruise at 80kmph, don’t expect it to carry out any overtaking at those speeds.
Clearly, the Tata Tiago EV is the one to have if performance is what you’re after. But if you’re one of those with range anxiety, the Citroen eC3 will help you keep it at bay a tad better than the others.

As for the MG Comet EV, it loses out to both the EVs on both the fronts (performance and range), but even still, as a city commuter, it won’t leave you longing for more. In fact, you’ll probably turn more heads driving the Comet EV around than you will in the other two EVs combined.
Tata retails the Tiago EV between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 12.03 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Citroen eC3 is priced from Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 12.76 lakh (ex-showroom). The MG Comet EV is the most affordable of the lot, with prices ranging between Rs 7.98 lakh and Rs 9.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
