MG Comet EV’s production gets underway in Halol, Gujarat
Debut is slated for April 19.
Will be one of the smallest EVs on offer in India when launched.
International markets get two range options with maximum 300km claimed range, India-spec technical details yet to be revealed.
Prices could begin from the Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.
MG has commenced the bookings of the Comet EV ahead of its launch on April 19 as the first unit of the mini-EV has rolled out of the carmaker’s plant in Halol, Gujarat. Prior to this announcement, MG had put out a teaser of the Comet EV’s cabin, giving us details about its dashboard design.
While technical details of the India-spec model are scarce, we do know that the Comet EV will be one of the smallest EVs on sale with a length and width of just 2,974mm and 1,505mm, respectively, as it’s basically the Wuling Air EV sold in Indonesia. Based on the carmaker’s GSEV platform, MG is marketing it as an urban commuter which will boast easy manoeuvring abilities in tight and congested spaces, thanks to its small footprint.
Fun fact: Globally, MG has sold more than one million units of vehicles based on the GSEV platform.
Even though it will be a cute, small electric urban runabout, the carmaker won’t hold back when it comes to bestowing it with modern creature comforts as previous teasers reveal dual 10.25-inch screens, for the infotainment system and the instrumentation along with comforts like auto AC, connected car technology and steering-mounted controls.
Other features that could be on offer include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and likely a parking camera as well.

In markets abroad, the Comet EV is available in two variants (with battery capacities of 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh), and the one with the bigger battery pack boasts a claimed range of up to 300km. A 41PS e-motor is common for both trims.

We reckon MG will price the Comet EV somewhere between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a smaller alternative to electric hatchbacks like the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3.
