The Comet EV’s Indonesian counterpart gets two powertrain options. Which one is the India-spec model going to get?

  • MG Comet EV specifications leaked ahead of launch.
  • India will get the smaller 17.3kWh battery, paired to a 42PS electric motor.
  • This setup claims to deliver a claimed range of 230km.
  • It measures 2974mm long, 1505mm wide, 1640mm tall and sits on a 2010mm wheelbase.
  • Comet EV rolls on 12-inch wheels and gets disc brakes up front.
  • Prices are expected to start around Rs 10 lakh.

The Comet EV, MG’s big thing for this year, is all set to be revealed later today evening on April 19. And the carmaker has been slowly revealing details through a teaser campaign. However, the carmaker has been hush on the specifications of its compact EV, which has been leaked just moments before its debut. So without further ado, let’s get cracking.

But before that, let’s set context. The Wuling Air EV in Indonesia, on which the MG Comet EV is based on, comes with two powertrain options: Standard and Long Range. It gets a 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh battery packs, both paired to a 42PS electric motor. Our market will get the smaller battery, which promises a claimed driving range of 230km.

It still remains to be seen whether the Comet EV will get fast charging or not. But while topping it up using a 3.3kW home charger, the Comet takes five hours to juice from 10 to 80 percent and seven hours to charge from 0 to 100 percent.

The dimensions of the MG Comet EV, which was recently spotted in a bright green shade, is out of the bag as well. So the tiny vehicle measures 2974mm long, 1505mm wide, 1640mm tall and sits on a 2010mm wheelbase. It rolls on 145/70 R12 wheels and despite it being a small car, still gets disc brakes at front and drums on the rear.

MG will give a detailed rundown of the Comet EV later today, so stay tuned. Prices, though, won’t be announced today and are expected to be revealed soon. We suspect it will start around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will be a smaller alternative to the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3
