MG is in the works of bringing a new electric crossover to India, which is already sold under the Wuling brand as the Cloud EV in markets abroad. But MG has now confirmed that the electric crossover will be called the Windsor EV (inspired by the Windsor castle) in India, which will be launched around the upcoming festive season, possibly before Diwali.

The electric MG has already been spied testing in India and MG has also teased a few details ahead of its imminent launch. Here’s what you can expect from it:

Design

We expect MG to give the upcoming crossover SUV a similar treatment as the Comet EV, which is also sold abroad with a different moniker. So overall styling is expected to be the same, with a few tweaks here and there.

MG Cloud EV

Curved panels will define the silhouette of Windsor EV, which will sport a connected LED strip up front, along with split headlights in the bumper. It will sit on large aero-designed 18-inch alloy wheels and the rear will get a connected LED tail light setup as well.

MG Cloud EV

The overall design will be slightly unique on our roads, considering we don’t have many crossover SUVs in the mass market segment.

Cabin and Features

The global-spec Cloud EV gets a simple cabin dominated by a large 15.6-inch touchscreen. The corresponding 8.8-inch digital driver’s display looks tiny in comparison, which sits behind the two-spoke steering wheel. It gets a black theme, which is contrasted by a few bronze inserts, and we won’t rule out the possibility of MG offering an entirely different theme for India.

Apart from the aforementioned screen, the Cloud EV gets features like 6-way powered driver seat, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and a wireless phone charger. Most of these should be offered in India as well, and a panoramic sunroof has already been confirmed for our shores.

Its safety kit is made up of 4 airbags (likely to be upgraded to 6 for India), ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold assist, electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features.

Powertrain

There’s no confirmation on this front yet, but the Cloud EV is available in multiple powertrain options, depending on the market. It gets a 50.6 kWh battery pack in Indonesia, which sends charge to a front-wheel mounted 136 PS/ 200 Nm electric motor. The setup has a CLTC-claimed (China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) range of 460 km.

A smaller 37.9 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 360km is also available in other markets. MG could equip the Windsor EV with either of these battery packs.

Price and Rivals

MG could price the Windsor electric crossover SUV from around the Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) mark, placing it below the ZS EV SUV.

MG Cloud EV

At that price, it would directly rival the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400 and the entry-level variants of the upcoming Tata Curvv EV.
