MG is gearing up for the launch of its next EV in India, which looks like it is going to be the Cloud EV. The crossover-SUV is already sold in global markets under the Wuling brand, and you can expect a similar treatment as we’ve seen with the Comet EV. The spotted mule was draped entirely in heavy camouflage, but here’s everything we know and can decipher from these spy shots:

MG Cloud EV Design

Not much can be detailed from the spy shots alone, but the shape of MG’s upcoming EV looks something between an SUV and a crossover. We reckon the styling of the India-spec model will be very similar to the international unit, which boasts a curved front with a split headlight setup. The connected LED DRLs span the upper half of the nose, while its big headlights are placed on the bumper itself.

The side profile is simple with a long roofline and crease-less contours. The charging port can be spotted on the front left fender and you get fancy ferris-shaped 18-inch alloys, which fill up the wheel arches rather nicely.

The rear too is simple and rounded. The body and window line are separated by a chrome strip that runs across the shoulder line, adding a contrast to the body colour. The taillight too is a simple connected strip, spanning the width of the tailgate. We expect a few changes for the India-spec model, as seen with the Comet EV.

MG Cloud EV Interior and Features

The Cloud EV’s cabin hasn’t been papped in India yet, but going by the global market’s vehicle, you can expect a minimalist cabin. The 15.6-inch free-floating touchscreen takes centre stage with sleek vents right below the screen.

While the overall cabin theme is black, it gets splashes of bronze all around the cabin and a wood inlay on the dashboard for some contrast in the styling. India could get a different theme as well.

MG Cloud EV Touchscreen

In terms of features, the international model packs the aforementioned infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, 6-way powered driver seat, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and a wireless phone charger.

Its safety kit comprises 4 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold assist, electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and autonomous emergency braking.

MG Cloud EV Powertrain

The Cloud EV packs a 50.6 kWh battery pack in the Indonesian market that is paired with a front-wheel mounted single electric motor. It puts out 136 PS and 200 Nm and the setup has a CLTC-claimed (China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) range of 460 km.

There’s also a 37.9 kWh battery pack offered in other global markets, which offers a claimed range of 360km. Ofcourse, the Cloud EV supports DC fast charging, which takes just 30 minutes to charge the 50.6kWh battery pack from 30% to 100%. A 20-100 percent charge via an AC home charger takes around 7 hours.

Which powertrain option will be offered in India is yet to be determined.

MG Cloud EV Price & Rivals

MG could place the Cloud EV below the ZS EV SUV, and could price it from around the Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.

A launch could happen around the upcoming festive season and it would sport a premium alternative to the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.
