More Details Of The Royal Enfield’s Electric Bike Revealed

The Royal Enfield boss divulges what we can expect from the company’s first electric bike

It is no secret that Royal Enfield is working on its first electric motorcycle and now, in an interview with Autocar Professional, more details of the product have been revealed. Siddhartha Lal, MD of Eicher Motors hinted that EVs may not be a replacement for internal combustion engines.

Electric mobility is gaining traction rapidly especially for “short-distance” city commute, but “but for long distances, internal combustion engines will continue to remain core till the time-weight and cost equation remains high.” With that in mind, the upcoming Royal Enfield electric bike is unlikely to have a 200km range like the Ultraviolette F77.

Instead, we could see a range of 100km-120km, which should suffice for commuting needs. The picture of the Royal Enfield Electrik01 shows it is a minimalistic, compact e-motorcycle, fit for urban use.

Royal Enfield says the process of developing an EV takes more time considering the testing and validation process is a tedious one. However, the development process is flexible, and bits like the battery pack and motor could be upgraded in a shorter span of time.

The company had already revealed that the EVs would be developed at their existing Vallam Vadagal plant, which has a dedicated section for the L1A platform. We can expect the company to showcase the concept of its electric bike at EICMA 2023.
