MW Motors Spartan 2.0 revealed as electric version of the Force Gurkha
Cosmetic changes are limited to the front grille which gets the MW Motors emblem
Cabin gets a new digital instrument cluster and a new gear lever.
Packs a 177PS/1075Nm electric motor paired with a 61kWh battery pack
Will be sold in European markets only.
A Czech startup called MW Motors has taken the Force Gurkha SUV, and plonked an electric powertrain in it. In the process, they have deleted the rear seats of the off-road SUV and will sell it as a commercial vehicle positioned for farmers, forestry workers, extreme sports enthusiasts, mining firms and nature conservation in markets abroad. Here’s everything you need to know about it:
Design wise, there are no major cosmetic changes, save for the grille which has now been closed and holds the MW Motors emblem. Oh and of course, the snorkel-like exhaust pipe has been given a delete, considering that it has no carbon gas by-product to diffuse.
Even the cabin is untouched, carries the same dashboard design, steering and even the infotainment system is unchanged. Only the main gear lever is new along with the really crips-looking digital instrument cluster. As mentioned earlier, the rear seats have been deleted, so that the section can be used for a variety of functions as per the need arises. The cargo capacity lies at 1718-litres.
In terms of features, it gets manual AC, a 7-inch infotainment system, electric windows, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill descent control and vehicle to load (V2L) technology.

The real change lies underneath the metal. Gone is the 2.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which is replaced by an all electric powertrain. There’s a single electric motor with an output of 177PS and 1075Nm. It is paired with a 61kWh battery pack which supports fast charging speeds of up to 90kW. The setup has a claimed range of more than 241 km.
20-80 per cent charging takes around 5.5 hours using a 7kW charger. The same time drops to 36 minutes when using a 90kW charger.
It retains its four-wheel drive capabilities along with manual locking front and rear differentials. So while the standard Gurkha was a mighty off-roader, this one should be no less, especially considering the abundance of torque on offer. It is heavier than before though, tipping the scale at 3,375kg. The one sold in India weighs 2,050kg.

The Spartan 2.0 will only be sold in international markets like Europe and is unlikely to make its way to India. We however could get a 5-door version of the Gurkha very soon, which will rival the likes of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door. The standard car rivals the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
