Germany-based Naon has unveiled its first electric scooter prototype in its home country. Called the Zero One, it will come in two variants – L1e and L3e – priced at €4,920 (Rs 4.20 lakh) and €6,420 (Rs 5.48 lakh) respectively (both prices excluding taxes), which seems really expensive.
The electric scooter market has been really active with new products coming in every week, but there are several things that sets the Zero-One apart.
The Zero-One adopts an unconventional yet minimalistic styling approach. The scooter gets a really clean, geometric design which looks sharp and certainly premium. It gets a single-seat setup, a large footboard, naked handlebars and the front features a transparent windshield. The Zero-One is equipped with a single-material aluminium frame.
Quite unlike any other, the electric scooter features a rectangular single bar LED headlight on the windshield and a sleek taillight setup under the seat.
Powering the scooter is a detachable 2.4kWh battery offering a range of 70km, though the scooter is equipped to hold two batteries, boosting the range to a combined 140km. The L1e variant offers a 3kW output and reaches a top speed of 45kmph, whereas the L3e variant produces 7kW and 200Nm and can reach a top speed of 100kmph. Besides, the battery pack on the Zero-One is placed under the footboard offering a low centre of gravity, making it quite flickable as well.
The Zero-One’s aluminium frame is suspended by a USD fork up front and a monoshock out back. The frame is made of sustainable materials and can be recycled. The braking duties are handled by discs on both ends with a dual-channel ABS setup.
The Zero-One does not feature an instrument cluster, instead using the rider’s smartphone, mounted onto the handlebar, for ride information. But since this is still a prototype we can hope that the company includes a cluster to this unique package. It also gets an underseat storage, although it might be pretty small considering the size of the scooter.
Naon claims the Zero-One is made with recyclable materials that are simple to break down, repair, and remake into more raw materials, and that it employs an eco-friendly manufacturing process.
The Zero-One will not be heading to our shores anytime soon, but you can check out other premium electric scooter offerings like the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X and Simple One.
