Ola Electric’s CEO Bhavish Agarwal in a recent tweet disclosed that the prices for the Ola S1 Pro will be increased in the next purchase window. The next purchase window is expected to open later in April.
Recently Ola had opened its third phase of bookings on 17 - 20 March with a new and exclusive Holi-inspired colour scheme called Gerua. Additionally, the MoveOS 2.0 software update for the e-scooters will be rolling out by the end of April. The new update fulfils the promise of features like navigation, cruise control, companion app and Bluetooth connectivity.
With a production of close to 1,000 scooters per day, Ola plans on becoming the largest EV manufacturer in the country. In February, Ola delivered almost 7,000 S1 scooters and intends to deliver about 15,000 units by the end of March.
Taking its made-in-India initiative forward, Ola has also revealed its plans on making its own lithium-ion battery cells. To achieve this, the company has onboarded Dr. Prabhakar Patil, who has experience in developing batteries and was the head of LG Chem Power. This step will help the EV-manufacturer reduce the dependency on importing the battery cells, consequently reducing manufacturing costs and avoiding delays in production of the EVs.
No more details on the new pricing has been disclosed, however, we can expect the e-scooters to see a price hike of around Rs 5,000 - Rs 7,000. The Ola S1 and S1 Pro go up against the likes of Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450X, Simple One and TVS iQube.
