The Central Government has reduced the Fame-II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) subsidy with effect from June 2023, as a result of which several EVs have witnessed a steep price hike. For example, the Ola eleactric scooter is now dearer by Rs 15,000. Below is the updated price list of Ola’s electric offerings.
Model | Old Price | New Price | Difference |
Ola S1 Air | 99,999 | 1,09,999 | 10,000 |
Ola S1 | 1,14,999 | 1,29,999 | 15,000 |
Ola S1 Pro | 1,24,999 | 1,39,999 | 15,000 |
(Note: All prices ex-showroom, Bengaluru)
Fame-II subsidies, introduced in April 2019 to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, will be stopped gradually. And to mitigate the impact, manufacturers are making changes to their lineup. Ola, for instance, has discontinued its 2kWh variant as part of these adjustments. EV manufacturers now face the need to increase the localisation of electric vehicles in order to reduce costs and keep on offering competitive prices to customers.
