The all-electric and suave Rolls-Royce Spectre has completed winter testing just 55km away from the Arctic Circle. During its time there, the luxury electric vehicle and Rolls-Royce’s crew had to endure temperatures dropping down to -40 degrees and naturally, rough weather. And the good news is that the Spectre has successfully passed the grueling tests.
Each and every detail counts in winter testing as it pushes the vehicle’s capabilities to the absolute limit. Well, that’s because the extreme temps change the properties of the vehicle's components. So, right from the vehicle’s battery pack to the smallest details like the door beading, bushes, each and every aspect is noted as the properties and function changes.
Plus, the slippery nature of the terrain allows engineers to fine tune the handling of the luxury EV. It also allows engineers to know how the vehicle will react to different scenarios while driving the vehicle in regular circumstances.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre’s overall silhouette is very much similar to the Wraith coupe, and with such upright fascia, you might be wondering how aerodynamic it is. But with a very low rake for the windscreen, efficient airflow, and even an altered Spirit of Ecstacy, the British automotive marque was able to achieve an incredible 0.26cD.
But the interesting detail that caught my attention was the incredible amount of sound deadening used here. 700kg, which is almost equivalent to a Maruti Suzuki Alto’s kerb weight. But this isn’t actual foam used in sound deadening material. Rather, the wiring between the roof of the battery and the floor of the vehicle acts as one to provide a more refined ride.

Winter testing is just 25 percent of the job done for Rolls-Royce. The British automotive marque aims to complete another two million km of testing before delivering the first unit in the fourth quarter of 2023.
