Simple will offer an additional battery option to extend its range

Simple Energy made a smashing entry last year when it announced specs and pricing for the One. The Simple One was launched on August 15, 2021, the same day as the Ola S1. Both these scooters heralded a new future for electric two-wheelers in India, but the journey hasn’t been so simple for Simple. The launch for the Simple One has been delayed, and it will finally go on sale in June 2022.

That said, the wait for prospective customers could be worth it for Simple, as the brand has been constantly updating the electric scooter, and has now announced a new battery pack option for the One. The new battery pack option will push the range of the Simple One to over 300km, if the claimed numbers are true, making the Simple One the electric two-wheeler with the highest range in India. We would like to add that this is the IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) figure and not the real-world range. For comparison, the IDC figure for the Ola S1 Pro is 181km.

According to the company, customers can opt for the additional battery option during the final payment. To increase range, Simple will offer two removable batteries instead of the one fixed and one removable unit as seen on the standard scooter.

As expected, battery capacity will also increase, and the extended range comes at a cost. Customers will have to pay Rs 35,999 extra. At this price, it isn’t significantly more expensive than the Ola S1 Pro which retails at Rs 1.29 lakh and cheaper than the Ather 450X at Rs 1.50 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom Bengaluru).

Last month, Simple Energy also announced that it has updated the motor as well. The new upgraded 8.5kW motor now delivers an impressive 72Nm, with a claimed 0-40kmph acceleration time of just 2.85 seconds.
