Here’s what this feature-loaded, yet affordable, Ola e-scooter packs

Ola Electric recently launched the entry point to its electric mobility ecosystem, the S1 Air. While at first glance, it looks similar to the S1, there are quite a few differences visually which help the S1 Air stand out from its more expensive siblings. Let’s take a closer look at the Ola S1 Air:

On the design front, the Ola S1 Air sports the same silhouette as the S1 and S1 Pro. However, you are bound to notice that the S1 Air uses a black-coloured panel for the lower half of its body, unlike its siblings which get body-coloured panels. Additionally, the S1 Air also gets a simple tubular metal grab rail.

The floorboard of the Ola S1 Air is flat, unlike its siblings that have a prominent spine. This is due to the smaller 2.5kWh battery pack, claimed to offer a range of 101km, that it has.

There are two advantages of this flat floor. Firstly, the space can be utilised better for carrying luggage. More importantly though, there is no room for the awkwardness felt by the rider owing to the curved floor as in the S1 Pro, relieving a bit of stress from his/her legs.

You will also notice that the S1 and S1 Pro’s fancy single-shock front suspension has been replaced with a standard telescopic fork. The rear suspension comprises dual shocks, while braking duties are handled by drum brakes at both ends.

The Ola S1 Air, just like the TVS iQube and unlike its siblings, features a hub motor at the rear wheel instead of a mid-mounted motor. This 4.5kW motor is claimed to propel the Ola S1 Air from nought to 40kmph in 4.3 seconds and to a top speed of 90kmph.

While a lot has changed on the hardware side, not much has changed on the features front. The Ola S1 Air is equipped with a ‘Reverse’ mode, seven-inch touchscreen display, smartphone connectivity, multiple rider profiles, music and call control among many others. The Ola S1 Air will also receive the MoveOS 3 software update and here’s all the new features it brings.

While the Ola S1 Air was launched at an introductory price of Rs 79,999, it is currently priced at Rs 84,999 (ex-showroom including FAME II subsidy), which places it in the range of 110cc petrol scooters, along with the horde of affordable electric scooters in the country.

Bookings for the Ola S1 Air have commenced and prospects can place an order for a token amount of Rs 999. The payment window will start in the first week of February, 2023 and deliveries will commence in the first week of April, 2023.
