The Tata Curvv EV is a fresh addition to India's electric vehicle market, standing out with its sporty SUV-coupe design. It earned a 5-star safety rating from BNCAP, making it one of the safest EVs available. It comes equipped with two battery pack options: a 45 kWh medium-range and a 55 kWh long-range, with the carmaker claiming a range of up to 502 km on a full charge.
But does it truly drive the claimed distance in a single charge under real-world conditions? We've tested it with the bigger 55 kWh battery pack to find out the same. Let's dive into the results.
With the Curvv EV charged fully, the test began with the odometer reading 2,979 km and the car set in ‘eco’ mode. Tyre pressures were adjusted to the Curvv EV’s recommended pressures and the initial range on the display was 351 km. The ambient temperature on the day was around 26 degrees which went up by 7 degrees till the test ended. The seat ventilation was turned on for the tester’s comfort, the AC was set to 23 degrees, and the SUV set off for a varied drive combining usual city driving inclines, highways and expressways.
Throughout the drive, the regenerative braking system was fiddled with, which helped slow down the car without much use of the brakes in stop-and-go traffic and helped extend the range as much as possible. When the battery had dropped to 1% and the drive was finally wrapped, the odometer read 3,360 km approx. Some quick math revealed that the car covered a total distance of 381.3 km. That’s the longest distance a Tata EV has clocked in our real-world range test!

This real-world range is rather usable, keeping in mind the mixed driving conditions and the added drain of comfort features like seat ventilation and climate control that it bore along. But, it fell short of touching the 400 km mark and a lot below the claimed distance. It might run a little more in cooler climate terrains.
Still, the real range that we got out of a single full charge is impressive enough if you’re looking for a stylish family SUV for periodic city travels and some intercity runabouts. We've also done a separate performance test with the Curvv EV, and you can read all about its acceleration times in this story.
The Tata Curvv EV is priced between Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and it can also be had with a petrol or a diesel engine option. It stands as an alternative to the likes of Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and lower variants of the BYD Atto 3. It’ll also rival the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
