In the latest edition of ZigWheels performance story, we have lined up two Tata electric vehicles – the Tata Curvv EV and the extremely popular Tata Nexon EV. Both these cars are in their long range versions and have maximum power from the electric motors. And in this report, we are going to find out which one is the quickest in our real-world performance test.
But before all of this, a quick…
… Spec Check
Since the models used in this report are the long range versions, we have only compared their specifications for reference. Here are the details:
Tata Nexon EV Long Range |
Tata Curvv EV 55 |
|
Power (PS) |
145 PS |
167 PS |
Torque (Nm) |
215 Nm |
215 Nm |
Battery Capacity |
40.5 kWh |
55 kWh |
MIDC-claimed Range |
390 km |
502 km |
We have also tested the real-world range of both these cars, details of which can be found here:
While both Tata cars deliver the same torque, the Curvv EV is the more powerful one out of the two. That being said, the Curvv EV also has a larger battery pack to carry and could this added benefit put it at a disadvantage?
Let’s find out!
Acceleration Test
Tata Nexon EV Long Range |
Tata Curvv EV 55 |
|
0-100 kmph |
8.75 seconds |
8.87 seconds |
20-80 kmph (Kickdown) |
5.09 seconds |
5.5 seconds |
Whoa! That was super close at the line. The Nexon EV with its smaller battery pack managed to beat the Curvv EV by just 0.12 seconds. Sadly, the extra power of the Curvv EV doesn’t compensate for better timings due to the larger battery. Even in the roll-on acceleration test, the difference between both cars is just around 0.5 seconds, with the smaller Nexon EV managing to inch ahead.
Price And Verdict
Tata Nexon EV |
Tata Curvv EV |
|
Ex-showroom Price |
Rs 12.49 lakh onwards |
Rs 17.49 lakh onwards |
In the confines of this test, the battle was close, but the Nexon EV managed to inch ahead of the Curvv EV in both the acceleration tests and is the winner. In the real-world, both these cars have more than adequate performance - be it whether you’re driving in town, cruising on the highway or climbing up the ghats with a full load.
