Tata’s push towards electrification is rather apparent. The Indian carmaker has just launched the first facelift for its most popular electric model – the Nexon EV – and that has nudged the carmaker for a novel dealership idea. It already has the largest EV portfolio, which is set to expand more – this side of the Rs 25 lakh mark – and at the same time, it is pushing new ICE models as well. As a result, it is set to have 10 models by 2025, which will include cars of both nature.
The carmaker has already embraced a new brand signature for its electric division, which goes by the Tata.ev moniker. So to differentiate between its two portfolios,, it will now be setting up dedicated showrooms and outlets to retail its electric products.

Here’s what Vivek Srivatsa, head, marketing, sales and service strategy , Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, had to say: "We have already created unique spaces within our existing stores, we call it shop-in-shop, which can also be referred to as ".EV" corners. We have it active in about 100 stores, which will be expanded to 200 stores very soon."
"If you look at the business situation, we're going to have 10 products by 2025 many of which will be both ICE and EV, like the Curvv and Sierra. With the ICE portfolio also growing, it'll become difficult to showcase all the products in the current showrooms. So there is a need for it."
As mentioned in the quotes above, the carmaker already has a unique space within their existing dealerships, but is planning to go ahead with the powertrain-specific dealerships to give the ICE and EV models a proper distinction. They plan on coming up with up to five EV-specific dealerships from the fourth and last quarter of this year, which will then be expanded steadily.

Tata currently has three models that have both ICE and electric guises, including the Tiago, Tigor, and Nexon, which will soon be joined by the Harrier and then the Curvv and Sierra SUVs, all of which are set to get both EV and ICE powertrains. The Harrier EV was previewed as a concept at the Auto Expo back in January 2023. But would you rather have all the models in the same dealership or do you think this move to separate the dealerships for its ICE and EV product is a sensible one? Let us know what you think below.
