When Tata Motors launched the Kaziranga Edition range of SUVs which comprised the Punch, Nexon, Safari, and Harrier, there was only one SUV that didn’t get it, the Nexon EV sub-4 metre SUV. But during our recent chat with Rajan Amba, Vice President of Sales, Marketing & Customer Service at Tata Motors, the carmaker has hinted at other plans for the Nexon EV.
While Rajan Amba didn’t reveal what’s exactly coming for the Nexon EV, we think it’ll be a special edition trim exclusive to the EV. Currently, the Nexon EV can be specced with a ‘Dark’ Edition, which adds on a Midnight Black shade, blacked-out wheels, as well as additional kit such as a tyre pressure monitoring system and a tyre puncture repair kit.
The other possibility for the Nexon EV could be upgrades for the drivetrain and mechanicals, considering test mules were spotted with rear disc brakes (for better stopping power) and new alloy wheels. A Delhi RTO document hinted at a more powerful 136PS electric motor, with reports suggesting a larger 40kWh battery pack.
In its current setup, the Nexon EV utilises a 129PS electric motor, and a 30.2kWH battery pack to deliver an ARAI-claimed 312km of range. Tata Motors currently offers the Nexon EV at prices ranging from Rs 14.29 lakh to Rs 16.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), available in the XM, XZ+, and XZ+ LUX trims.

We’re yet to get a launch timeline for the possible special edition Nexon EV, but we think it should show up soon. The price premium depends on the exclusive add-ons being offered. While it is a cheaper alternative against the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV, MG is preparing a Tata Nexon EV rival, slated to go on sale in 2023.
