The Punch EV marks the first Tata vehicle to embrace the Acti.Ev platform, which is a dedicated architecture for Tata’s volume-based all-electric vehicles

Tata’s electric onslaught sees no recession as the Punch EV has just been launched. It is based on the Acti.ev platform which will underpin future volume-based electric Tatas like the Harrier EV and Curvv EV. It gets a host of changes over the standard Punch including fresh styling cues and features and we’re here to talk about all the new details in this story using 10 images:

Just like the new Nexon EV, the Punch EV’s face has been tweaked, and is now sharper and more modern. It gets the connected LED DRL setup and the split LED headlights below it. Yes, they do get the welcome and goodbye animations. The grille is closed off and the bumper gets vertical slats for the air dams setting it apart from the standard Punch.

There are no changes in the silhouette of the Punch EV. But it does get an EV badge and new alloy wheels in profile.

The rear too is hard to differentiate from the standard Punch. Changes include the addition of the ‘.ev’ wordmark and a new colour for the skid plate on the bumper. The tailights retain the star-shaped motif.

Inside the Punch EV, the inspiration from the new range of Tata cars is apparent. It gets the new-two spoke Tata steering wheel and touch-based console for AC functions. While the overall dashboard design is untouched, it does get a new 10.25-inch touchscreen system, lifting the ‘premium’ quotient of the EV.

In what comes as a welcome change, the Punch EV also gets leatherette and ventilated seats, and a new dual tone theme to go along with it.

New features include a fully digital driver’s display, a 360-degree camera system, an electronic parking brake, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, and a built-in air purifier.

Standard safety features include six airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control (ESC). It also gets the blind view monitor that pops the feed of a specific on your screen, whenever you indicate.

Just like most Tata electric vehicles, the Punch EV is also available in two broad variants – Standard and Long Range – both carrying different battery packs and electric motors. You can take a look at the detailed specifications here:

We’ve already talked about the platform underpinning the Punch EV, known as the Acti.Ev platform. It’s going to be a major part of Tata’s future electric lineup and you can know all about it here.

With prices ranging between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 14.99 lakh, the Punch EV is more expensive than its ICE-powered counterpart by around Rs 5 lakh (depends on the variant). Additionally, the sunroof-equipped variants and the 7.2kW charger for the long range variants carry a premium of Rs 50,000 over the standard variant prices. For that steeper price tag, you get a premium look, feel, and driving experience not to mention, a cleaner vehicle overall. The only direct rival of the Punch EV comes in the form of the Citroen eC3 which, however, can also be considered a bigger alternative to the Tiago EV.
