The Auto Expo 2023 media day is beginning and kickstarting things is Maruti Suzuki. India’s largest carmaker has taken the wraps off the eVX electric SUV concept. This is an important model as it previews the carmaker’s first all-electric vehicle in the country, which will go on sale in 2025.
The Maruti Suzuki eVX concept EV measures 4300mm long, 1800mm wide, and 1600mm. So it falls in a segment that consists of rivals such as the Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV. Plus, the SUV also shows the design and technology that will be part of the carmaker’s future electric lineup.
In terms of styling, the electric SUV has a closed off front-end with a gloss black strip connecting both the angular DRLs. The chunky skid plate on the front bumper adds a dash of ruggedness to the SUV’s overall front fascia. In profile, chunky squared out wheel arches adds a dash of muscle, while the large alloys give it a nice stance.
The black coloured roof and the sloping roofline adds an air of sportiness to the overall SUVs design. The roofline meets the tailgate, which gets a spoiler for aero purposes and a connected LED tail lamps. A chunky rear bumper with a skid plate rounds off the overall design.
The eVX concept SUV will be based on a new ground up built EV-specific platform. Complete technical specifications aren’t yet out, but the carmaker has confirmed that it will be powered by a dual electric motor setup with a 60kWh battery pack. It gets a four-wheel drivetrain boasting a claimed range of 550km.
As mentioned above, the Maruti Suzuki eVX concept will preview the carmaker’s first electric SUV that will go on sale in 2025. And considering that it will be rivalling the Tata Nexon EV Max and Mahindra XUV400, we expect the production model to start from around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
