The Nexon EV is undoubtedly the most popular EV in the Indian car market, with its compact size suited for our roads, the modern technology it packs, and impressive claimed range for the price point. However, to spice things up, MG recently introduced a new entry-level Executive variant for the ZS EV, undercutting the Nexon EV’s top model pricing.
Should you go top-spec with the Nexon EV Empowered Plus or step up a segment to the ZS EV’s base Executive model? Let’s find out:

The MG ZS EV clearly emerges as the longer and taller SUV when compared to the Nexon EV, which is a sub-4 metre offering. That said, the Tata SUV is wider by a smidge than the MG ZS EV.
The ZS EV stands out with its larger boot space of 448 L, compared to the smaller boot of the Nexon EV.

The obvious winner here is the Nexon EV in its top-spec variant. The Nexon EV bags almost all the latest tech that you can expect at the price point. Clearly, the MG ZS EV’s equipment list for the base model does not prove to be a match for the similarly priced Nexon EV. However, the base model of the ZS EV does feature soft touch materials, making the cabin feel premium and upmarket.

The MG ZS EV offers a bigger 50.3 kWh battery pack compared to Nexon EV’s smaller 40.5 kWh battery pack. The power and torque output for the MG is significantly higher than the Nexon EV, making it feel quicker and more thrilling to drive. The higher power output also helps the ZS EV to reach a higher top speed of 175 Kmph, while the Nexon EV tops out at 150 kmph.
That said, while its e-motor is more powerful, the Tata SUV has a slightly better claimed range.
Charging time
The Nexon EV takes around 4 hours 20 minutes to recharge itself from 10-100 percent using a 7.2 kW A.C. charging unit.
The MG ZS EV, on the other hand, takes up to 9 hours to go from 0-100 percent using the 7.4 kW A.C. charging unit.
The Nexon EV takes 56 minutes to charge from 10% - 80% using a fast charger, while the MG ZS EV can go up to 80 percent in 60 mins using a fast charger.
Verdict
If you are in the market for a well-equipped feature-loaded EV that has all the latest tech, look no further than the Nexon EV. On the other hand, if you need something bigger, with a better road presence and a more powerful motor, but willing to compromise on niceties, the MG ZS EV should be on your list.
