Toyota has taken the wraps off the Urban Cruiser SUV in Europe. Mind you, this is not the sub-4m SUV that was discontinued in India, nor any other global version, but rather a rebadged version of the Suzuki eVitara, which was unveiled internationally last month.
Like the other badge-engineered models sold by both brands in India, the eVitara and Urban Cruiser showcase key visual differences. Ahead of their Indian debut, take a look at how the two upcoming electric SUVs compare in terms of design inside out.
When viewed head-on, the eVitara appears sharper and more aggressive compared to the Urban Cruiser's streamlined and cleaner design. The eVitara's Y-shaped DRLs enhance its muscularity, while the Urban Cruiser features a strip of small LED DRLs elements, which are less striking than its Maruti counterpart. Keen-eyed viewers will notice the absence of fog lights on the Toyota Urban Cruiser.
Both the Urban Cruiser and the eVitara feature an identical silhouette. In fact, both also boast similarly designed alloy wheels, chunky body side cladding, and C-pillar-mounted door handles.
Except for the badging on each model, the eVitara and Urban Cruiser look similar from the rear. Both feature sleek, body-width LED tail lights with different motifs. The two also boast blacked-out rear bumper and roof-mounted spoiler that enhance their sportiness.
Except for the different cabin color scheme, it will be difficult for you to spot any other differences in the interior layout of the Urban Cruiser and eVitara. The Suzuki SUV features a dual-tone black and brown theme with silver accents throughout, giving it a more premium feel.
In contrast, the Urban Cruiser features an all-black theme, enhancing its sporty appeal, complemented by piano black accents. Both models get a flat-bottom steering wheel, a dual-display setup for the infotainment system and digital driver’s display, and toggle switches for climate controls. Just like the existing rebadged models, we expect them to share all their features, which will include a 12-colour ambient lighting, powered driver seat, a fixed glass roof and a premium JBL sound system.
We expect both the Maruti Suzuki eVitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser to hit our roads by the end of next year. The two are also likely to carry a similar price tag of around Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, both will take on the electric compact SUV segment, with the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
