For the past couple of years, TVS has been at the forefront of almost everything around racing. But if you thought that just ICE-powered racing was getting too mainstream, TVS will now soon start racing electric two-wheelers too! Today the brand announced its (and India’s) first ever racing championship for electrics. The e-OMC (electric one make championship) will make its debut at the fourth round of INMRC (Indian National Motorcycle Road Racing Championship) on September 29 this year.
Eight riders (picked by TVS) will then race on the new TVS Apache RTE (Racing Throttle Electric) electric motorcycles. Now while TVS hasn’t divulged into details about the bikes’ motor and output figures, here’s a quick lowdown on what they pack:
Looks beautifully curvy while maintaining the sharp and aggressiveness of a race bike
Liquid-cooled motor that TVS claims has the highest power-to-weight in its class
Bespoke Ohlins suspension at both ends means endless customisation
Brembo braking system (320mm front disc) = top notch hardware
Pirelli Super Corsa tyres ensuring that there’s plenty of grip when leaned over
Carbon fibre battery case, wheels and fairing = plenty of weight saving
New livery that combines TVS factory racing’s colours and along with some ‘sustainability-inspired’ graphics
Now some of us have had the privilege of riding multiple TVS race bikes. Be it the race-ready Apache RTR 200 4V in YMRP, or the Apache RR 310 OMC race bike or even the Apache RR 310 OMC ARRC, we had the chance of having a go at all of them. And we hope to do the same with the new TVS Apache RTE soon as well.
With the Apache RTE, TVS has finally forayed into electric bikes and we hope some of the technology from it trickles down into the road-legal electric bikes that TVS makes. Till then, if you’re looking for a premium electric from TVS, check out the TVS X electric scooter.
