Mahindra has officially teased its upcoming electric SUVs, revealing its name as — XEV 9e and BE 6e (pronounced as “be”). Both the electric SUVs will be unveiled globally on November 26, 2024 ahead of their expected launch in early 2025. Along with their launch, Mahindra will debut its new INGLO platform which will underpin not just these cars but also its future EVs, and can house multiple battery packs.
If you are in the market looking for an electric SUV, while not being in a hurry to finalize on a car, you should consider waiting for the two Mahindra EVs. For now, let’s take a look at the information we already know about these upcoming SUVs:
The BE 6e is the production-spec version of the BE 05 Concept and will be a compact electric SUV with futuristic features and sharp design elements, which will make it stand out from the rest. On the other hand, the XEV 9e is the production-spec model of the XUV e9 which slightly larger dimensions (mid-size) and a more sophisticated look with modern design elements. Complementing their modern design language will be Mahindra’s new logo which can be seen in the latest video teaser.
As per the latest teaser and previous spy shots, we know that both these SUVs will sport a coupe-design and sporty-looking design elements with a modern touch. Flush door handles, connected headlights and aerodynamic alloy wheels will be present on both the SUVs. The BE 6e will come with a bolder and sharper design for the LED tail lights, while the XEV 9e gets a curvy look featuring connected LED tail lights.
The BE 6e will come with a dual-screen setup, while the XEV 9e will introduce the new triple-screen setup featuring an entertainment screen for the co-driver. Apart from the addition of the third screen, the XEV’s dashboard design and layout will be largely similar to that of the XUV700. It will also come with a three-spoke steering wheel, while that of the BE 6e will be a sportier-looking two-spoke unit. The BE 6e’s cabin will boast a more quirky and sporty design giving the driver an almost cockpit-like feeling.
With both these SUVs, you can expect premium features such as a panoramic sunroof (glass roof on the BE 6e), Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, powered front seats with ventilation, digital driver’s display, multi-colour ambient lighting, multiple wireless phone chargers and a premium audio system.
Passenger safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and level-2 ADAS.
The exact powertrain details have not been revealed yet, but we know that the two SUVs will most likely be offered with multiple battery pack options. Both of them will be based on the new INGLO platform, likely with both single and dual-motor options that can produce up to 395 PS of power. The platform can accommodate battery packs of 60 kWh and 80 kWh sizes with a maximum WLTP-claimed range of 450km.
The Mahindra BE 6e is expected to be priced anywhere between Rs 20 to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom), while the larger XEV 9E will likely be priced around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). The BE 6e will rival compact SUVs like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV and also upcoming cars like the Maruti eVX and Hyundai Creta EV. The XEV 9e will be a direct competitor to the upcoming Tata Harrier EV.
