Mahindra’s upcoming EVs top speed potential teased.
XUV.e9, XUV.e8, And BE.05 recorded 200kmph at Mahindra’s proving grounds.
The BE.05 was recently teased in production-ready guise, though camouflaged.
The Mahindra XUV.e8 will be the first to launch, sometime around late 2024.
Mahindra has been quite vocal about its electric plans. In fact, the carmaker is so open about electrification that it has even revealed a new brand identity for its upcoming range of electric vehicles (EVs) on August 15. So to keep the hype live, the carmaker revealed a teaser of three of its upcoming EVs – XUV.e9, XUV.e8, And BE.05, clocking 200kmph just a day after World EV Day.
The top speed run was recorded at Mahindra’s proving grounds in Chennai. The three EVs were shown next to each other before executing a Figure 8 manoeuvre to show their handling abilities. You can watch the video here:
The XUV.e8, basically the electric XUV700, will be the first of these three EVs to break cover, likely around late 2024. The XUV.e9, basically an SUV-coupe version of the XUV.e8, is due for introduction in April 2025. This is also the first time Mahindra is giving a glimpse of the upcoming electric SUV coupe being tested.
The BE.05, on the other hand, is just past the design phase, as the carmaker revealed a production-ready camouflaged model in August. That is likely to be launched in October 2025, with a price tag of around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.
Mahindra currently only has a single electric offering in the form of the XUV400, which is based on the ICE-powered XUV300. It rivals the soon to be launched 2023 Tata Nexon EV, while being an affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV.
