During Volkswagen’s annual press conference in March, we got a silent teaser of a new electric sedan concept, codenamed the ID. Aero. Now, the carmaker has officially teased in another angle and has confirmed the pre-production unit will break cover on June 27.
The latest teaser image gives us a proper look at the side profile and the rear, which reveals the massive wheels from before, a sloping roofline and clean character lines to make it look slick. The rear is fastback-like with connected tail lamps featuring a futuristic lighting setup. We know from the earlier teaser that the front end will get familiar ID bits such as sleek connected headlights and muscular air vents.
While technical details are yet to surface, like all VW EVs from the ID range, the ID. Aero will be based on the carmaker’s MEB platform, with possible options of both rear and all-wheel drivetrains. What we do know is that the electric sedan is claimed to go up to 700km on a single charge.
It will first show up in China with a launch in the second half of 2023 (so production should begin soon), with production in the North American and European markets set to begin in 2023. In India, it’ll probably be a longer wait since we don’t have an ID. EV; moreover, the carmaker has made no indication of bringing electric vehicles to the country yet.
