Volvo has taken the wraps off its latest offering, the EM90 luxury electric MPV. It will go on sale in China first before making its way to other global markets. It’s available as a 6-seater, but we suspect Volvo will bring more seating configurations and variants later. So without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about the EM90.
The Volvo EM90 fuses classic boxy MPV proportions and distinctive aesthetic elements characteristic of the Swedish automaker. Instantly recognizable as a Volvo, the front houses the iconic Thor's Hammer LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and signature headlights, complemented by a notably large closed-off grille that incorporates an illuminated logo.
From the side, the EM90 showcases a straightforward design, featuring blacked-out pillars and expansive glass surfaces. It rolls on either 19-inch or 20-inch wheels, and is equipped with sliding rear doors for easy entry and exit.
The EM90’s rear stands out with a fresh interpretation of vertical tail lamps that extend both above and below the rear windscreen's base. This unique positioning not only adds to the vehicle's width but also gets a chrome accent for a touch of bling.

Let’s start with the middle row first as that’s where most owners will be spending their time. You get two lounge seats that boast powered adjustment, and massaging as well as heating and ventilation features. Additionally, these seats come with built-in tables, enhancing the overall convenience and luxury of the interior.
It’s not over yet, as the large panoramic sunroof lets in a lot of light inside the cabin. And for entertainment duties, there’s a roof-mounted 15.6-inch screen that is tilt-adjustable – allowing you to customize the viewing angle for optimal comfort – and can also be folded down when not in use.
Moving now to the front, and the EM90’s dashboard exudes minimalism. There are only two displays: a digital driver's display and a larger 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment through which you can access all the features. Audiophiles can also rejoice as it gets a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, further elevating the in-car audio experience.
The EM90, for now, is available with just a single 272PS electric motor option, teamed with a 116kWh battery. The carmaker asserts an impressive 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 8.3 seconds. It has a claimed range of 738km that is determined through the CLTC (China Light duty vehicle Test Cycle). Notably, the EM90 is equipped for ultra-fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes.
No word on that yet. But considering that luxury MPVs like the Toyota Vellfire are enjoying immense success here, we think Volvo should consider bringing the EM90 here. But before that, expect to see the EX90 electric SUV from the Swedish carmaker on our shores.
