The XUV300 EV will be over four metres long, as electric vehicles needn’t comply with the dimension-related taxes applicable on ICE vehicles

Mahindra will announce the prices of its first long-range electric offering, the XUV300 EV, in early 2023. The all-electric SUV will be longer than the four-metre mark, as electric vehicles needn’t comply with the dimension-related constraints, and subsequent taxes, that apply on ICE vehicles. Now, images of the electric SUV’s rear-end have surfaced online, revealing its revised design.

For starters, the electric SUV boasts new LED tail lamps with clear lenses in between. But the highlight is its stretched rear end, which should effectively allow for better luggage space than the sub-4m ICE version. The wheelbase, however, remains unchanged, so don’t expect any difference in rear knee room than the ICE car. Apart from that, the electric SUV is expected to boast a redesigned fascia and bespoke alloys.

The electric SUV’s dashboard is yet to be seen. But based on the model displayed at the Auto Expo, it had an all-black interior with EV-specific dials and a larger infotainment system. Plus, the electric SUV could get new features from the XUV700 like select ADAS features, a Sony sound system, wireless phone charger, and probably connected car tech.

Specifications of the upcoming electric SUV are still under wraps. That said, the Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max will be its benchmark and arch rivals. So, like the Tata, it could be offered in two variants with varying outputs and battery packs. FYI, the Nexon EV Max can go up to 437km (ARAI-claimed figure) and the XUV300 EV’s target will be this figure.

The Mahindra XUV300 EV is expected to be priced from Rs 15 lakh, putting it in contention with the Tata Nexon EV. It’ll also be a more affordable alternative to the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV
