It’s christened the ELECTRICa project, a lightweight, zero-emissions concept motorcycle

It’s a little-known fact that Aprilia has been working on electric propulsion since 1975, having introduced a long list of vehicles such as the MP3 Hybrid, the first hybrid scooter in the world. So it goes without saying that the Italian marque knows its tech. And with the EV space gaining momentum, the brand wishes to introduce its very own electric motorcycle. The only catch is, it’s for youngsters.

What we know so far:

Piaggio Group in its press release for EICMA mentioned the Aprilia ELECTRICa Project – envisioned around future mobility for younger riders. According to Aprilia, the motorcycle will be a lightweight zero emissions concept built for future cities. From the design point of view, it will feature Aprilia’s signature triple headlamp cluster with sleek and sporty bodywork.

Since it’s designed for the younger generation, the bike will be compact in terms of dimensions with a low saddle height. More importantly, it will have both brake controls on the handlebar, making the transition from scooters easier.

The electric motor is positioned centrally to maintain a low centre of gravity. So we can expect the bike to be a good handler, knowing it’s Aprilia, a company that builds the RVS4 – one of the best handling bikes in the superbike segment. It recently introduced its uber-exclusive track-focused RSV4 XTrenta, limited to only 100 units.

Also worth mentioning is the feature list. The Aprilia ELECTRICa will come with a keyless ignition system, an LCD console, phonic wheels and active electronic aids for added safety.

When you piece things together, it looks like Aprilia is working on a bike similar to the KTM Freerider X-CE. Not the extact same thing per se, but an electric motorcycle that’s light, nimble and easy to use within city limits. Don’t expect mind boggling performance figures, but accessible  performance that will still put a smile on your face.

This is still speculative. Until Aprilia introduces the bike, the entire story will remain a mystery. Until then, stay tuned to ZigWheels.
