A first snap of the new SUV suggests we could see it hit showrooms in 2022

  • Despite the heavy camouflage, the Parametric slatted front grille can be seen, paired with vertical LED DRLs.

  • Likely to feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital driver display, a Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

  • Hyundai offers upto nine powertrains abroad which include mild-hybrid, hybrid, and plug-in-hybrid combinations.

  • Rivals include the Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross, Volkswagen T-Roc and the Tata Harrier.

While we presently have the third-gen Tucson SUV, Hyundai could be preparing to bring its next iteration to India.  A set of images have surfaced online of the fourth-gen SUV testing in the country for the first time. The 2022 Tucson broke cover in markets abroad back in September 2020.

Looking at the spy image, while most of the SUV is under heavy camouflage, the front was undeniably the new Tucson. The highlight being the Parametric slatted front grille with vertically stacked DRLs and split LED headlights. This grille has also recently made its way to the facelifted Creta.

We’re yet to have a look inside the India-spec Tucson, but we can expect it to be fully loaded with kit such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a sunroof, ventilated front seats as well as a Bose sound system. Passenger safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, as well as advanced driver assists such as lane keeping assist, lane following assist, and a blind sport monitor.

Powertrain details for the India-spec model are yet to surface, but Hyundai has specced the Tucson with a raft of combinations. The petrol options comprise a 2.5-litre engine (190PS), a 2-litre engine (156PS), and a 1.6-litre turbocharged mill with optional 48V mild-hybrid tech in two states of tune -- 150PS/180PS. A 1.6-litre engine in two states of tune (115PS/136PS) with optional mild-hybrid tech, and a 2-litre unit (186PS) round off the diesel motors. There’s also hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains in the form of 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine making a combined 230PS and 265PS. The SUV will be paired with an all-wheel drivetrain.

Expect the fourth-gen Hyundai Tucson to arrive in India by 2022 and priced at a premium over the current-gen model that retails from Rs 22.69 lakh  to Rs 27.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will rekindle its rivalry with the Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross, Volkswagen T-Roc and the Tata Harrier.
