Chinese two-wheeler giant Zongshen has launched the 2022 Cyclone RT3 maxi-scooter in its domestic market. As seen on most Chinese two-wheelers, the RT3 is loaded to the gills with features, and fortunately, has the performance to complete the package.
There’s no second thoughts about the fact that the 2022 Cyclone RT3 is a headturner. As expected from a maxi-scooter, this is a heavy-looking machine, meant to go the distance. From its huge, electronically-adjustable windshield to the motorcycle-like folding mirrors and its massive underseat storage, a lot of details here highlight its intended purpose.
Zongshen has backed those burly looks with a 250cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that belts out 23PS and 22.5Nm. This is the same engine from the older model, and while power output has remained unchanged, the torque has gone up marginally. The Cyclone RT3 is claimed to have a top speed of 120kmph.
Zongshen has a whole lot of features for this maxi-scooter. As part of the standard equipment, the RT3 brags of a TFT console with bluetooth connectivity and remote locking. With its official accessories, you can arm the scooter with heated seats and grips, a third-gen OBD cable, and with the new smartwatch sold by Zongshen, you can unlock the scooter straight from your wrist.
The Chinese manufacturer hasn’t revealed much about the suspension and braking components, but it runs on a telescopic fork and dual shock setup, with disc brakes at both ends dropping the anchor. Zongshen claims to have improved the ride quality by using a new steering mechanism.
The RT3 runs on a 15/14-inch wheel setup with fat 120/70 and 140/60 tyres at the front and rear respectively. Interestingly, while the company provides alloy wheels as standard equipment, buyers can opt for wire-spoke rims too.
The Zongshen RT3 is available in three variants: Standard (CNY 22,980 or Rs 2.75 lakh), Premium (CNY 24,500 or Rs 2.93 lakh) and Smart Edition (CNY 25980 or Rs 3.10 lakh). While the TFT instrument console and tyre pressure monitor is limited to the top variant, the massive 17-litre fuel tank is common for all variants.
Zongshen’s maxi-scooter is surely an enticing option, at least on paper. While the Indian market may never see the Cyclone RT3, we do have the exorbitant BMW C 400 GT. And if you are looking for something that’s (relatively) easier on your wallet, the Yamaha Aerox 155 isn’t a bad option either.
