One would assume the Honda RS-X to be a scooter, but it’s actually more than that

Honda’s Malaysian branch, Boon Siew Honda, has taken the wraps off the 2021 RS-X motorcycle cub. It retails at RM 8,688 (Rs 1.56 lakh), which is around Rs 18,000 more than the Yamaha Aerox 155’s Indian price.

Before diving into the deets, let us tell you what a ‘motorcycle cub’ is. A motorcycle cub is essentially a blend of a scooter and a motorcycle. This means the bodywork and design is more like a sporty scooter but the tyres, footpegs and gearbox are reminiscent of a motorcycle. This segment is quite popular in Southeast Asian markets, hence these cubs are exclusive to such countries. With that out of the way, here’s what the RS-X offers for the moolah.

To start off, a striking design. The RS-X is quite radical from head to toe, with elements like the old Yamaha R3-like inverted headlamp and the Honda CBR150R-like sleek tail. All this is held together by sporty body panels which come wrapped in three shades: Tri-colour edition, Candy Caribbean Sea Blue, and Lemon Ice Yellow. Us, being VR46 fans, dig the Lemon Ice Yellow option.

Next up, features. And the Honda RS-X checks all the necessary boxes. From all-LED lights and a multifunction key to an informative LCD instrument cluster -- all these come standard on the RS-X.

Coming to the powerplant, the Honda RS-X is powered by a 149cc single-cylinder engine belting out 16PS and 13.6Nm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.

Being a motorcycle cub, the RS-X rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels clamped by disc brakes, sprung on a telescopic fork and preload-adjustable monoshock.

At 795mm and 122kg, the Honda RS-X seems pretty easy to live with too. However, as mentioned above, this two-wheeler is exclusive to Southeast Asian markets, meaning it’ll probably never make it to India. Plus, with the Activa and Shine crunching good sales numbers, Honda doesn’t really need something like this here.
