It was just a day ago that we reported dealers accepting unofficial bookings of the next generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio, and the carmaker has now made it official. You can now pre-book the 2021 Celerio at either an authorised dealership or on the Maruti Suzuki Arena website for a token amount of Rs 11,000. The hatchback is set to launch on November 10.
The carmaker also released a teaser video of the new hatchback, showing off its bigger and curvier body, confirming what we’ve seen in earlier spy images. It also gets a Swift-inspired chrome strip at the front grille, droplet-styled headlights, chunky bumpers and blacked-out alloy wheels.
The teaser video also confirmed a segment-first feature in the form of passive keyless entry with push-button start/stop. The hatchback’s cabin will also feature an unusual power window switch placement (to aid cabin width), a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, steering-mounted controls, and an MID borrowed from the Wagon R. Safety kit should include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors with a camera.
Maruti Suzuki has also confirmed the 2021 Celerio will get the 1.2-litre K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT petrol engine which is present in the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. For reference, it makes 90PS and 113Nm. Expect the current model’s 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (68PS/91Nm) to be retained. An AMT automatic transmission is confirmed, with the other option likely being a 5-speed manual gearbox. Also expect a CNG option with the smaller 1-litre engine.
The 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio will likely be priced from Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom, India), rivaling the Hyundai Santro, Datsun GO, Tata Tiago and the Maruti WagonR.
