Earlier images reveal a more curvaceous body, ditching the tall-boy boxy design from before.
Will feature a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual front airbags and ABS.
Could be powered by 1-litre (68PS) and 1.2-litre (83PS) petrol engines with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.
Will take on the Hyundai Santro, Datsun GO, Tata Tiago and the Maruti WagonR
This indicates the next-gen hatchback’s expected November 10 launch date is just short of an official confirmation.
We’ve seen the next iteration of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio on our roads for quite some time now, and it looks like the hatchback’s expected November 10 launch date might be a reality. The hatchback has started reaching authorised dealerships, and unofficial bookings are being accepted for a token amount between Rs 5,000 and Rs 11,000 depending on the dealership.
Judging from previous images, the hatchback looks bigger than before, and has veered away from its predecessor’s boxy profile to give the hatchback a curvaceous look. Notable bits include blacked-out alloy wheels, electric ORVMs, droplet-styled headlights, and chunky bumpers. There’s also a sleek chrome strip in the front grille a la the facelifted Swift.
A look inside the hatchback, and the layout is all black, looks simple and seems easy to use. That being said, the unusual placement of the power window switches could have been done to maximise cabin space. The carmaker will plonk in features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, steering-mounted controls, an MID borrowed from the Wagon R. It could also come with automatic climate control, a reverse parking camera, and a segment-first keyless entry with push button start/stop..
The new Celerio will be based on Maruti’s HEARTECT platform. It should be powered by not only the current model’s 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (68PS/91Nm), but also the WagonR’s 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (83PS/113Nm). Transmission options will likely be a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox like before. A CNG option will likely be offered like before with the smaller 1-litre engine.
Expect the 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio to be priced from Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Its rivals should include the Hyundai Santro, Datsun GO, Tata Tiago and the Maruti WagonR.
