The Covers Come Off The Next-Gen Hyundai Tucson In India

• Styling highlights include a bold front grille, vertical DRLs, sharp character lines, snake fang tail lamps, and dual-tone alloys.

• Cabin comes with two 10.25-inch digital screens, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a Bose sound system.

• The first Hyundai in India to come with ADAS safety assists.

After an announcement in May, Hyundai has finally taken the complete wraps off the newest iteration of its flagship SUV, the Tucson, in India. It first debuted globally in September 2020, and it's a night-and-day difference between its predecessor, which is likely to go on sale in August. 

The reason why there’s almost nothing relatable between the old and new Tucson on the outside is due to Hyundai's ‘Parametric Dynamic’ design language, which the flagship SUV debuts. The highlight of it all is a bold Parametric slatted front grille flanked by vertically stacked DRLs and split LED headlights. Move over to the sides, and you’re treated to dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels and sharp lines to make it look sporty. Snake-fang connected tail lamps at the rear compliment that sporty theme.

You get five monotone shades on the new Tucson, namely Fiery Red, Polar White, Phantom Black, Starry Night, and Amazon Grey. The Polar White and Fiery Red shades can be specced with a dual-tone roof.

 

Inside, you’re treated to a modern, yet minimalist cabin. It is loaded with features such as a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated and heated front seats, powered front seat (memory function for driver), 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, connected car tech, as well as Google and Alexa voice assist.

While the likes of six airbags, ESC, hill hold and descent control, all-wheel disc brakes, as well as front and rear parking sensors cover the basics in passenger safety, the big highlight is that it’ll be the first Hyundai in India to come with ADAS. The list of safety assists is massive, including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot warning as well as driver attention warning.

 

Under the hood, the India-spec Tucson comes with 2-litre petrol and diesel engines. The naturally aspirated petrol makes 156PS and 192Nm, and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel mill makes 186PS and 416Nm and is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. There’s also an AWD system with three terrain modes (snow, mud, sand) for those who want a bit of off-road fun.This drivetrain is limited to the diesel motor.

Prices for the 2022 Hyundai Tucson could start from Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. It’ll go up against the likes of the  Jeep Compass, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Citroen C5 Aircross.
