Just last week, Kawasaki India confirmed the updated Versys 650 is set to launch very soon. Today we spotted the upcoming middleweight ADV making test runs. This not only confirms the new batch Versys’s arrival on Indian shores via the CKD route, but also corresponds to the launch and delivery timelines we’ve received from our dealer sources. Despite the brief encounter, here are our observations on what’s new on the upcoming Versys 650:
We already know the new Versys 650 gets minor design changes, namely a revised headlight, Versys 1000-inspired face lip, new four-step adjustable flyscreen and sharp-looking engine cowl. Yes, the ADV also gets new liveries, but the test mule had that bit under wraps, literally. That said, compared to the outgoing version, the new model gets stockier front fairing. The new headlights and windscreen visually accentuate the ADV’s muscular look.
While mechanically the new Versys remains unchanged, the highlights of the new model are improved electronics like traction control. It also finally features a new 6-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity – bits the ADV desperately needed.
Expect the new Versys to see a price hike given the new updates it’s packing. We expect a premium of Rs 50,000-70,000 over the outgoing model that’s priced at Rs 7,15,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Unofficial bookings for the new Versys 650 have commenced across dealerships against a token amount ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Dealers expect the motorcycles to arrive in showrooms sometime next month and be ready for delivery towards the end of July.
