Maruti Suzuki has announced official bookings for its upcoming premium hatchback, the facelifted Baleno, in a new teaser that shows the hatchback's head-up display (HUD). It’s a Hyundai i20 rival that’s expected to be priced at a premium over the current model that retails between Rs 6.14 lakh and Rs 9.66 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker has begun taking bookings for the hatchback at Rs 11,000, ahead of its official launch expected later in this month.

A HUD is a translucent readout placed above the dashboard in the driver's line of sight. It shows you essential information – such as your car’s speed or engine rpm – without forcing you to take your eyes off the road. It seems that Maruti’s HUD will be configurable, allowing you to switch between options such as fuel economy and engine rpm, in addition to speed and time readouts.

In addition, the Baleno is expected to be equipped with cruise control, steering mounted controls, and a new floating infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Under the bonnet, the Maruti Baleno will be equipped with a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine with idle start-stop. It is likely to be paired with a 12-volt mild-hybrid system, rated for a total output of 90PS and 113Nm. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard, and we expect a CVT option.

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno will rival the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. It is expected to be launched by February-end, priced from Rs 7 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).
