The sub-4 metre SUV's safety upgrades could be similar to what showed up in the facelifted Baleno

Maruti Suzuki has been working on a new iteration of the Vitara Brezza for some time now, with the sub-4 metre SUV being spied testing as well as leaked images surfacing online. Now, the new-gen Brezza has been spotted again, but with a load of sensors that seems to hint at quite a hefty safety upgrade.

The camera sensors spotted at the front indicate the Brezza will get a 360-degree parking camera, a feature that recently made its way to the facelifted Baleno. Going by that logic, Maruti could also equip the sub-4 metre SUV with six airbags, in line with the updated Baleno. For reference, the current-gen Vitara Brezza’s safety kit includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a rear view camera.

Another reason we think the next-gen Brezza’s feature upgrades seem to be in line with the updated Baleno is that earlier leaked images of the cabin showcased a similarly large floating touchscreen infotainment system (possibly 9-inches with connected car tech). What’s exclusive to the new Vitara Brezza, is that it will be the first Maruti to get a single-pane sunroof.

Earlier images also revealed a new instrument cluster with coloured multi-info display and the carmaker’s new steering wheel with paddle shifters. Other expected features should include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start and a wireless phone charger.

The mechanicals might remain unchanged, utilising a 105PS 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired to a mild-hybrid system. A 5-speed manual will be standard, but the ancient 4-speed torque converter automatic from before could be replaced with a more modern unit.

Expect the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza to be launched in mid-2022, priced at a premium over the current-gen model, which retails from Rs 7.69 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. It will take on the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
