  • Skoda Kushaq featured auto-folding ORVMs in Ambition and Style trims.
  • Customers can retrofit this feature later when the situation improves.
  • Prices of the SUV start from Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Skoda has done away with the 2022 Kushaq’s auto-folding ORVMs for the time being due to the global semiconductor chip shortage. The carmaker will be making amends for it by refunding Rs 15,000 to its customers during purchase, which one can use to get the feature retrofitted at a dealer when the situation improves.

The auto-folding ORVMs were limited to the Kushaq’s Ambition and Style trims. It must be mentioned here that Skoda isn’t the only carmaker to be axing features from its offerings. Earlier, the Mahindra Thar was sent to showrooms without an infotainment system, while manufacturers like Hyundai and Tata launched select trims of their models sans the music system.

The semiconductor shortage has crippled deliveries as well. Case in point MG Motor India, which is struggling to meet delivery timelines of the Astor due to the same reason. The situation will likely remain as is for the next few months. That said, the central government in its latest budget has listed the dearth of semiconductors as one of the primary action areas

The Skoda Kushaq is currently priced from Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It locks horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor and Hector, Tata Harrier, and the Mahindra XUV700’s 5-seater variants.

In related news, Skoda India is readying the Slavia sedan for an early-March launch. Prices are expected to start from Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom), and it’ll rival the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the upcoming Volkswagen Vento’s successor (likely to be called Virtus).
