As Maruti is prepping the 2022 Alto for its India debut next year, images of the Japan-spec model have been leaked ahead of its debut. Mind you, this version of the Alto won’t make it to India.
Let’s take a closer look at what one of the most popular nameplates in India looks like in the Land of The Rising Sun.
Considering its proportions and design, the 2022 Alto seems to slot in the Kei car category, also known as an ultra-mini car. The unique styling appears to have given the compact hatch character compared to the Indian version. And last but not least, bright colours like this blue/white and red ensure the hatch stands out.
Inside, the compact hatch gets a relatively straightforward dashboard design with all controls positioned at the right places. Silver highlights around the steering wheel and AC vents contrast nicely with the black dashboard.
The Japan-bound Alto seems to pack decent equipment, including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted audio controls, a part-digital instrument cluster, and alloy wheels. Safety should be taken care of by dual airbags and ABS with EBD.
As of now, we don’t know what powers the international model. But the leaked brochure has given away that it will get a hybrid powertrain. We will update this space once we get more details, so stay tuned.
In India, Maruti will be launching the next-gen Alto in 2022. Prices are likely to start from Rs 3.5 lakh, putting it in the same range as the Renault Kwid, Datsun redi-GO, and Maruti S-Presso.
