The Toyota Glanza’s latest teaser has given us its first clear view of the interior ahead of its March 15 launch. And the best part is, unlike the pre-facelift car, the 2022 hatchback’s interior gets a couple of distinguishing elements to distance itself from the Baleno.
For starters, the Glanza’s dashboard design and layout are exactly the same as the Baleno. However, the Toyota’s dashboard is finished in a black/beige shade instead of the Baleno’s black/blue colour scheme. Also, the silver trim running across the hatchback is now replaced with gloss black. To my eyes, these changes make the cabin airier and more premium.
Apart from that, there are other obvious changes, which include the Toyota logo on the steering wheel and the infotainment screen.
The Glanza will get all the new equipment from the Baleno, including a head-up display, larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Arkamys-tuned sound system, connected car tech (telematics only), six airbags, and electronic stability control. Other bits that will be retained include cruise control, steering mounted audio controls, and auto-LED headlights.
Under the hood, Maruti’s familiar 90PS 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine is present, paired with a 5-speed MT and optional 5-speed AMT. This time around, though, the Glanza won’t get mild-hybrid tech or the ultra smooth CVT. And in terms of fuel economy, we expect it to be similar to the Baleno.
Bookings for the Toyota Glanza are underway, and the hatch will be offered in seven variants and five colours. Prices are expected to start from Rs 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
