Yamaha Tricity 125 & 155 Launched

Yamaha has Launched the Tricity 125 and Tricity 155 three-wheel scooters in the European markets. However, the scooters will only be available in select countries starting August 2022. Both the scooters flaunt a tonne of upgrades including a new engine, updated chassis, and new features.

In terms of design, the Tricity scooters retain the same muscular styling as their predecessors. Both get large fascia mounted LED headlight which now emits a wider beam. They also get edgy body panels that give them a sportier appeal.

Powering the Tricity 125 is a new Euro-5 compliant Blue Core 125cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine churning out 12.2PS and 11.2Nm (0.5Nm less than its predecessor). The Tricity 155, on the other hand, gets the new 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine borrowed from the Yamaha Aerox 155, and it produces 15PS and 14Nm (0.4Nm less than its predecessor). Both the scooters get the start and stop function with Yamaha’s variable valve actuation (VVA) tech, offering better low-end grunt without compromising on top-end performance.

As for the underpinnings, both the scooters get a new updated steel frame that offers a 60mm longer wheelbase than before, resulting in a longer footboard and longer seat. They also benefit from a new LMW Ackermann steering layout. Both the scooters are suspended on the same telescopic fork as before; however, the rear twin shock absorber has been updated and it now comes with suspension travel of 90mm which should make it more capable to ride on uneven roads.
Anchoring the Tricity scooters are dual discs up front (one on each front wheel) and a single disc at the rear, with ABS available on the 155cc model.

Just like most modern day scooters, these come packed with features like a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity. It shows real-time notifications for incoming calls, social media, email, text messages and fuel consumption. Features also include keyless operation via smart key on both the scooters, as well as a parking brake, USB charging socket and underseat storage LED lights on the Tricity 155.

The Yamaha Tricity 125 is priced at Euros 4,299 and Tricity 155 at Euros 4,999, equivalent to Rs 3.50 lakh and Rs 4.08 lakh (without Indian taxes and duties) respectively, an incredibly high price for scooters powered by 125 and 155cc engines.

However, these scooters will not be heading to our shores anytime soon, but if you are looking for performance-oriented maxi or maxi-style scooters, you can check out the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Aprilia SXR 160; and the bigger, more expensive BMW C400 GT available here in India.
