India-spec Verna looks similar to the international model with its Elantra-inspired styling.
To be offered in EX, S, SX and SX (O) trim levels.
Will get a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine alongside a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit.
Prices are expected to start at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
The new Hyundai Verna has been spied at a production facility in India for the first time, indicating that its production is underway. It seems that the India-spec model will be quite similar to the Korea-spec Accent. The all-new Verna sedan will hit the market on March 21 and will likely be priced from around Rs 10 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).
We already know from detailed design sketches that the 2023 Verna will get Elantra-inspired styling cues and will be a tad larger than the outgoing model. Overall, it sports a sleeker aesthetic with sharp body lines and creases and flared rear fenders.
Korea-spec Hyundai Accent for reference
From the latest spy shot, it’s evident that the new Verna will be near-identical to the overseas model, but will get a distinct set of single-tone, split-spoke alloy wheels. The dual-tone, machined alloy wheels seen on the international-spec model could be equipped on higher-spec variants.
Given that the Verna’s production has now begun at Hyundai’s facility in Tamil Nadu, deliveries of the same could commence soon after the sedan’s launch in March.
The updated Hyundai Alcazar gives us a hint of what to expect from the Verna’s new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The new engine will be the most powerful unit ever offered in a Verna sold in India, likely making the same 160PS and 253Nm as in the Alcazar.
In addition, the Verna’s older 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol unit will be revised to meet RDE (real-driving emissions) norms apart from ensuring compatibility with E20 (20 per cent ethanol-blended) fuel. It should continue with the same 115PS output.
A six-speed manual will be the standard transmission, with an iVT (CVT) automatic option for the NA petrol engine and a DCT for the turbo petrol unit.
