2023 Tata Harrier and Safari scores five stars in Bharat NCAP crash safety test.
The Tata twins are the first cars to be scored under the new protocol.
The SUVs have scored five stars in both Adult and Child Occupant Protection.
Safety kit on board includes ADAS, six airbags, and electronic stability control.
Tata Motors has become the first carmaker to secure a 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash safety tests. The Harrier and Safari SUVs have become the first cars to be tested by India's very own car crash safety test assessment and managed to ace it with a 5-star safety rating.
The 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari secured five stars in Adult Occupation Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP). This is a welcome start and an expected result as both the cars nailed the Global NCAP (GNCAP) tests as well.
In the frontal impact test, the 2023 Tata Harrier/Safari offered good protection to both front occupants’ heads and necks. While protection to the driver’s chest was rated marginal, the same for the co-driver was rated good. The co-driver’s knees received a good rating, while the same for the driver was rated adequate. The vehicles also offered good protection to the driver’s tibias, while the same for co-driver was not assessed.

In both the side pole test and the side moveable deformable barrier test, the Safari and Harrier SUVs offered good protection to the dummy’s head, pelvis and abdomen.
In terms of scores, the cars scored 14.08 out of a maximum 16 points in the frontal offset test while it aced the score with a 16 out of 16 points in the side moveable deformable barrier test, resulting in a 5 star rating in AOP.
Both the three-year-old and 18-month-old child dummies were placed in rearward-facing child seats. The SUVs scored 23.45 out of a maximum 24 points in the dynamic score. Further, the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation was scored 12 out of 12 points while the vehicle assessment score was 9 out of 13.
Tata has equipped the Harrier and Safari twins with an extensive safety kit. The standard equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. Meanwhile, the higher-end variants add ADAS, front parking sensors, and an electronic parking brake to the mix.
Tata has pitched the Harrier, priced from Rs 15.49 lakh onwards, against the likes of the MG Hector, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Mahindra XUV700 5-seater. Meanwhile, the Safari, which starts from Rs 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom), locks horns with the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra Scorpio N, Hyundai Alcazar, and Mahindra XUV700 7-seater.
