UPDATE: The 2023 Tata Nexon has been launched in India. Prices here.
September has been good for potential new SUV buyers. Honda launched the Elevate on September 4 and Tata finally lifted the covers off the 2023 Nexon, which will be launched on September 14. Yes, we’re aware that both go up in different segments, but we couldn't help but draw a comparison between them. Why and how? Let’s begin with the most defining factor - price.
Honda Elevate top-spec (Introductory) |

|
Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 14.89 lakh (MT) - Rs 15.99 lakh (CVT) |
Rs 14.59 lakh |
Estimated Rs 15 lakh |
Given that the top-spec variant of the Elevate is priced at Rs 15.99 lakh, and that of the outgoing Nexon goes up to Rs 14.59 lakh, prices for the two already overlap for a few variants.
And with this new facelift, the prices of the Nexon are bound to become dearer and could likely touch the Rs 15 lakh mark for the top variant, considering the new tech it has on board. This will bring it even closer to the Elevate’s top-spec prices. So we’ll compare the specifications of their respective top-end variants to keep things fair and square.

The Honda Elevate identifies as a compact SUV, whereas the Nexon slots into the sub-4m or subcompact SUV segment; and that is apparent in their respective dimensions. The Nexon sits just within the 4-metre bracket, while the Elevate stretches beyond with a length of 4312mm.
The Nexon only boasts a wider track width than the Elevate, but in every other parameter, it is the Honda that triumphs over the Nexon. Subsequently, the Honda Elevate will offer you a more spacious overall experience and a larger boot as well. But that’s a given considering that the Elevate sits one segment above.

Surprising, right? Despite sitting a segment below, the 2023 Tata Nexon packs more features than the Honda Elevate, save for the availability of ADAS. Most of the features are shared between the two, but the Tata also packs ventilated seats, a fully digital 10.25-inch driver’s display, front parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera over the Honda Elevate.
The only three things that the Elevate boasts over the Nexon facelift are the automatic folding and opening ORVMs, ambient lighting, and ADAS.

Irrespective of the variant , the Honda Elevate is offered with a single 1.5-litre NA petrol option that can be paired with either a 6-speed MT or CVT in its top-spec guise. As for the 2023 Nexon, it gets a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine option for those looking for a frugal option.

Also, the turbo-petrol engine on the Nexon is almost as powerful as the Elevate’s engine, while being even torquier. So in terms of outright options, there’s more to choose from in the 2023 Nexon with both petrol and diesel options, than the Elevate’s single petrol engine.
So space and road presence apart, it is the 2023 Tata Nexon that offers more and appeals more in terms of powertrain options and features, respectively. Sure, it might not have the same footprint as the Elevate, but if size is something that isn’t a priority for you, then the Nexon should surely be your pick. In fact, you might even be left with some cash in comparison to the Elevate’s top-spec variant, which could then be spent in accessories or future service bills.

That said, the Elevate’s sense of space inside the cabin, extra boot storage, and premium interior quality will offer you a better in-cabin experience apart from the materialistic gimmicks. Plus, you’ll also get the bragging rights for its larger dimensions over the 2023 Nexon.
So it boils down to your preference; you could either go for the space and practicality – along with the fuss-free ownership – of the Honda badge, or the multiple engine and gearbox options along with a well-rounded features list of the Nexon. And with that in mind, which one would you pick?
