The subcompact sedan segment has been making headlines in the past couple of weeks as Maruti Suzuki and Honda have introduced their heavily updated offerings, the new Dzire and recently launched Amaze, respectively. Both sedans come equipped with a slew of features compared to their corresponding predecessors, including some first-in-segment features. Also on offer is a new design, a fresh interior, and upgraded safety features. In fact, the Dzire also gets a new engine but it is the other way around for the new Amaze. So, how do they stack up on paper? Here is a detailed comparison between the two latest subcompact sedans.

Whereas, the prices of the top-spec variants have a difference of Rs 76,000. We expect both carmakers will likely increase prices by around Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000.

While the Amaze and Dzire fall under the same subcompact segment, sharing the same length, they differ when it comes to width, height, and wheelbase. For instance, the Dzire is wider and taller than the Amaze by 2 mm and 25 mm, respectively. But, the Amaze has a longer wheelbase, and also a little more boot space.

As seen in the aforementioned table, both the new generation models from Honda and Maruti offer more or less similar features. However, they stand out with a few unique features. The Amaze comes with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), whereas the Dzire gets a 360-degree camera and an electric sunroof.

While Honda has carried forward the same powertrain for the new Amaze, Maruti has equipped the next-gen Dzire with a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine – the same as the new Swift. While the power output figures are slightly different, the claimed fuel economy figures have a day and night difference. Plus, the Dzire offers an option of CNG version.
In conclusion, the new generation of the Amaze has closed the gap between its closest competitor, the Dzire, in terms of design, interior, and features. It has also become the most affordable car in India to offer ADAS. We will soon be comparing both the cars in a detailed road test review and stay tuned for the same.
