The new Maruti Swift has been tested by Euro NCAP and it has scored an average three stars in the crash safety tests. This score is slightly lower than the Japan NCAP scores, where the hatchback secured four stars. It must be noted that the previous-gen Swift also secured three stars when it was put through its paces by the European crash test agency.
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift secured 67 percent in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 65 percent in Child Occupant Protection (COP), 76 percent in Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) and 62 percent in Safety Assist (SA).
In the frontal offset test, the shielding was weak and marginal for the driver and co-driver, respectively While the Swift offered good protection to both the occupants' knees and femurs, Euro NCAP pointed out that a few areas of the dashboard poised a risk to these areas for people of different builds and those sitting in different positions.
The 2024 Swift didn’t do as per expectations in the full-width rigid barrier test, where it offered marginal protection to the driver and rear passenger’s chest. That said, it made up for the side barrier test, providing adequate protection to the chest, while the rest of the critical body areas were rated good. Euro NCAP also pointed out that the Swift scored maximum points in the side pole impact test, offering good shielding to all the critical body parts.

There is no countermeasure to protect head to head impact between both the occupants. However, whiplash protection offered by the headrests to all the occupants is good. Lastly, the body shell remained stable in the frontal offset test.
In this area, protection offered to the neck of the 10-year and 6-year old dummy was rated weak in the frontal offset test. The 10-year old dummy further had marginal protection for its chest, while the head shielding was adequate. However, the 6-year old occupant’s head had marginal protection only.
In the side barrier test, the 10-year old dummy had poor chest protection, while shielding for the neck was rated as weak.
Euro NCAP pointed out that the Swift’s front passenger can be disabled and the status of it is clearly provided to the driver, giving it brownie points. That said, the lack of a child presence detection system has been highlighted.
In this department, the Swift offered adequate / good protection to the head of a pedestrian or cyclist, however it was rated poor when it was tested on the A-pillars. The pelvis received good protection, while the femur, knee and tibias received largely good shielding.

Euro NCAP also pointed out that the Swift’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system can react to pedestrians and vehicles. Its response to pedestrians was rated adequate, while the same for cyclists was good. It’s only there is no protection against ‘dooring’ incidents, where no warning is provided when you open the door suddenly when a cyclist is coming from behind.
The new Maruti Swift tested came with safety kit such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and ADAS features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane assist system.
Performance of the AEB was rated as adequate for its reaction to other vehicles. Its lane support system gently corrects the car if it was found veering in the lane and also pitches in more critical situations. It also utilises a camera to identify local speed limits, presenting the info to the driver, post which he can manually set it.
That said, even though it gets seat belt reminders, there is no occupant detection system for rear seats, losing points on this front. Its connected car tech services also didn’t meet Euro NCAP’s requirements in the event of a crash.
Do note that the 2024 Maruti Swift is yet to be crash tested in India. However, considering that it got three stars from Euro NCAP (one of the strictest crash test agencies in the world), we expect it to do well on our shores.
The new Swift is priced from Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios as well as vehicles from other segments such as the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite and Renault Triber.
