The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift has reached our shores, with prices starting at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti offers the new Swift in 5 broad trims: Lxi, Vxi, Vxi (O), Zxi and Zxi+. In this report, we will be taking you through the base Lxi variant, which misses out on many of the luxuries available on the higher variants, but doesn’t compromise in terms of safety.
From the front, you will notice that it gets halogen projector headlights instead of LEDs, and a chrome strip which replaces the DRLs that are present on the higher variants. The front is dominated by the grille with the ‘Suzuki’' emblem placed above. It features body-coloured bumpers, but misses out on fog lamps which are only available on the top-spec Zxi + variant.
In profile, the first thing you will notice is that the 14-inch steel wheels do not get wheel covers. It also misses out on body-coloured door handles and ORVMs. Also, look closely and you’ll notice that the turn indicators are on the fenders instead of the ORVMs, as on the higher-end models.

From the rear, the hatchback comes with LED tail lights. However, it misses out on a rear wiper and washer which are available on the higher variants.
Another point to note is that the base variant is only available in 4 colour options: Sizzling Red, Magma Grey, Splendid Silver, and Pearl Arctic White. It misses out on Novel Orange and Luster Blue colours.
Enter the cabin and you will be reminded that you are sitting in a base variant. It features an all-black dashboard and fabric seats. The big miss here is an infotainment system, which is available from the Vxi variant onwards.
The features list here is pretty basic, and you might have to rely on aftermarket updates if you intend to buy the base variant. The features list includes: keyless entry, tilt power steering, manually adjustable ORVM, rear defogger, and power windows with auto up and down for the driver’s side.
The good news is that there are plenty of safety features available on the Swift, including 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and 3-point seatbelts for all seats with reminders.

The 2024 Swift features a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which generates 82 PS and 112 Nm. For the base variant, the engine can be paired only with a 5-speed manual transmission. In the higher variants, you get an option of a 5-speed AMT. As for fuel efficiency, it returns 24.8 kmpl with the manual and 25.75 kmpl with the AMT.
The Maruti Suzuki Lxi variant is priced at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Head over to our launch story for full variant-wise pricing. The Swift rivals the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, while being a hatchback alternative to the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Triber.
