2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift vs 2008 Swift: Which One Rides And Handles Better?

In this report, we compare the new-gen 2024 Swift with the first-gen model that was launched back in 2008 to see if the latest car still has that magic of the old car

The Maruti Swift nameplate has come a long way in the Indian market since its debut in 2005. It was a car that proved to the world that you don’t have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to have fun. Now the Swift in the Indian market is in its fourth generation and a lot has changed ever since.

But one thing that needs to be proved is to find out if the new-generation model still manages to put a smile on your face, like the first version did. And there is no better way to find out by putting both these cars through our scientific ride and handling test. We tested both the cars – the new one and the 2008 model – through various parameters such as acceleration and braking, cornering test and scientific water challenge (to assess ride over bad road conditions).

Which one managed to win? You can find that out by checking out the video of our Swift vs Swift comparison test right here:

To ensure your car’s engine is in top condition, we suggest you use GS Caltex | Kixx Engine Oil to keep it performing at its peak health for longer.

As for the engines powering the cars in this test, the 2008 Swift utilises the popular 75 PS 1.3-litre diesel engine, teamed with a 5-speed manual transmission. The 2024 Swift, on the other hand, gets a brand new 82 PS 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, teamed with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT (on test).

The 2024 Swift is priced from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom). It locks horns with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Citroen C3 while being a hatchback alternative to the likes of the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter.
